Living Translations in Istanbul - Conversation Analysis

Translation between languages has many difficulties. You are not able to translate for example, a poem by using only a dictionary. You can find the meanings of the words but how can you put them in the right syntax like the poet did? This was one of the points the translatiors had talked about in the conversation that I attend to in Nazım Hikmet Cultural Center 2 weeks ago.
One of The foreign conversationalists live in Turkey said when he bagan to live in Turkey, the more he learnt about Turkish language& culture the easier he has translated into Turkish. That's because learning a culture is not possible only using books, especcialy if you want to translate literary texts from one language to another. You have to learn the culture and that is possible with living a certain time in that country.
If you are studiying a language that is close to yours, for example English to Spanish , it is more easier than English to Turkish because the languages are similar. And also their life styles and feelings are similar. Think that when we hear a song in Azerbaijanese we are able to understand lots of what it says. . .
About translating poems, as an incontestable fact, it is more difficult than translating texts. One of the conversationalists talked about the way how she study. She says when she is translating: first she looks up the meaning of the word. You know, after chosing one of the twenty meanings of a word, than she looks for the sound. Because she wants to have poetry in her translation. You can't exactly move one language to another you have to TRANSLATE it. This time I realised what translation actually is.
One of the audiences wanted to speak and emphasised translation is more difficult if you want to express something includes feelings. If you translate a medicine text, every readers in the world can understand what it says. But a poetry, and also humars it is challinging.
When I came to home and while I was reading my magazine of humars I saw a humar of Yiğit Özgür in it. I laughed at it so much and wanted to share it for you, here it is:)
